An interview With......
Mr Joe Kenny, Head of Operations
What is your charity called? The Ronald McDonald House Charity
When and why was it established? Since 1974, our network of local chapters have been making children happier and healthier by keeping families together – giving them a place to rest and refresh. The House in Crumlin opened in 2004 and to date has looked after nearly 3,000 families across the Island of Ireland
What is the purpose of the house? The Ronald McDonald House provides long term accommodation and support for families from all over Ireland whilst their children are seriously ill in Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
What is the cost per night to stay at the house? The cost for the family en-suite room is: €10 per night for the room
What facilities are available? All families have their own bedroom with a private ensuite, TV and telephone. The remaining communal facilities in the House include:
Car parking
Laundry
Dining area
Lounge/Library
Toddlers room
Kitchen
Outdoor Toddlers Play area
Garden
What is a person required to bring with them? Families should bring food, clothing, toiletries and anything else you would take on a trip away. Linen and towels are provided.
How close to Crumlin Hospital is the house? The Ronald McDonald House is on the grounds of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital
Where does your funding come from? This money is raised each year through our many fundraising events with support from the public and families and friends of those who have stayed with us. We have never received any state funding.
Do you have volunteers, if so what do they do? In 2015 a total of 559 Volunteers contributed 8,690 hours to The Ronald McDonald House, saving the Charity €184,019. We could not look after our families without the support of all our Volunteers. Many thanks for #KeepingFamiliesClose. Volunteers make an enormous difference every day at The Ronald McDonald House. We need help with all the following tasks: Cooking, Painting, Decorating, Gardening, IT, HR, PR, Event Management, Website, Photography, Printing, Administration, DIY, Maintenance, Hairdressing, Beauty and so much more besides.
